11.19.11 - Wedding Songs (Funny!)

I felt motivated to start planning seriously for the wedding.  I began listing down the names of the guests and the possible seating chart.  After that, I began searching for songs to be played during the ceremony and the reception.  I was so engrossed with what I'm doing but I needed to go for a quick CR break.  I asked Pong to scan the list of songs and let me know if there's anything that he wanted to change.  He didn't say anything about the choices of songs, so I thought he's agreeing to what I've written.  Just now, I reviewed my list again and saw 2 additional songs in my list:
I was really sure that these songs:  Pirates of the Carribean and Final Countdown were not on my list.  Couldn't get to be angry to Pong because it was just so funny.  This really made my day! :))

Elie Saab - Bridal Gown Designer

One of the most difficult tasks that a bride has to make is figuring out her wedding gown design.  I would attest to this since I really had a hard time surmising the best among all the intricate and alluring designs available. Your designer would be very instrumental in your decision especially if he / she can provide invaluable suggestions.  You can send some pegs to your designer that can be an inspiration in sketching your gown.

Checking on the different wedding designers can be fun and would give you a lot of idea on your  preference.  You have to take in mind, though, to choose something that will look good on you.  Don't just settle since it's from Spring 2011 collection, but you have to picture yourself wearing the gown, as well.  If you think you've achieved your look with that modish wedding gown in mind, then you're good to go.

I searched for many designers and I like Elie Saab the most.  Elie Saab is one of the designers who has both the classy and modern touch in his designs.  He's a Lebanase who got his limelight when he designed Halle Berry's gown in 2002 during Oscars. I love Elie's technique in creating swanky and sleek fashion that would make women wearing his creations really dashing.

Emil Ocampo - Wedding Couturier

After Pong proposed and we had agreed on the date of the wedding, I already took the chance of researching for different wedding suppliers. I envision my wedding to be a special gathering of our families and closest friends. Having this, I would like it to be as simple as possible while achieving the dream wedding I’ve also thought of having.

Booking our suppliers was not that difficult, since we are decided to have the wedding in Batangas. We already have the church, reception, make up artist, photographer, videographer and band; the only problem I had was that I still didn’t have my couturier. I’ve been searching for various designers in the internet; however, none of them seem to catch my attention. I have to mention that I am taking into consideration the budget of my gown since I don’t want to put all the money in my dress. I want to keep some for our honeymoon so I am looking for a good designer who can design my preferred wedding dress within my budget. Luckily, one of the soon to be brides mentioned Emil Ocampo in a wedding forum. She described how professional and flexible Emil is, who draws design based on what the bride wants. I’ve seen some of his samples and that was the moment I said to myself, “Finally, I think I have my wedding designer!”.

Pong and I went to his office in Sta. Cruz, Manila. He showed me the design of my wedding gown based on some samples that I sent him. He drafted 2 wedding gowns, and I chose the one with the modern touch. :) I decided that Emil will also make the entourage dresses and Pong’s barong. I am so happy that I have booked almost all the important suppliers in my wedding. I just can’t wait for that special day where I’ll walk down the aisle and marry the most wonderful man in my life, Pong.

What to do? How to do it? - Wedding Planning

I decided not to book a wedding planner for my wedding.  Since I was a little girl, I've envisioned myself planning my wedding.  On the other note, I am still thinking if I would consider hiring an On the Day Coordinator who would help me during the ceremony and assist me during the reception.  I have the option, though, to ask one of my older cousins who got married already to help me or look for an "OC" friend who can do the trick.
Since I already need to get started with the planning stage,  I began searching for free wedding planner in the internet.  I saw some but most of them didn't contain the complete list of items that I need.  There are also online sites that would provide you the list plus the convenience of sending RSVPs to guests but you would need to subscribe at least $12 per month.  Yesterday, as I was surfing the net, I discovered the Google Docs for Wedding.  I saw different documents really helpful in organizing weddings and the best thing is that they're free. :)  Here are the list of documents that you can download:

I downloaded the Wedding planner since it contains all the other documents in one sheet.  Wedding planner has different tabs on it.  I just removed the "Do Not Play" list to just focus on the list of songs that should be played in the wedding.  Every important aspect in the wedding is in the document already, so the only thing that you have to do is to enter the possible suppliers or booked suppliers in the sheet.  These are the helpful items you'll find in the sheet:
Guests - contact details of your guests;
Budget estimator - what is your overall budget?  The sheet will automatically compute the allocated percentage of your budget per item
Budget - you can enter your estimated budget and the actual money spent for each supplier / item
Venue, Caterer, Photographer, Videographer, etc. (and other suppliers) - if you have several choices, you can indicate them here
Music - one of the important tabs in the sheet.  You need to list all the music that you want to play in your wedding.  You can also show it to your band, as well, so that they can prepare the preferred songs in the list.

*sample only*
Seating chart - if you want to arrange the seats of your guests, then you can make good use of this.  I made sure that all sponsors are seated together; same with the entourage, my family and Pong's; our friends.

To dos - You can indicate in this tab your "to do" list all throughout the planning stage.  Since I have a problem remembering things, I put all my activities like when to pay the downpayment, send invitation and etc. in this tab.

Wedding Day Schedule - this is one of the most important tabs in the Wedding Planner.  As of now, I don't see myself hiring a coordinator, so this would be very helpful.  I can give this list to one of my trusted friends or cousin who can help me ensure that everything goes as planned.

If there are items, which you think are not of any use, you can edit the document.  I felt a little better having this document because it's an organizer.  This keeps me focused in doing the challenging and tedious work in planning the event.
Every bride wants her wedding to be the best and it offers a great deal of ease to have one of these planners for help. :)

On Weddings and Marriages...

"As you enter into your new lives as Newly - weds, remember:
To have a successful marriage, all you need is trust, respect & an undying commitment to the person you love enough to stick with forever.
To have a successful wedding, though, you need something really hard to sustain; a sense of humor.
Keep that in mind & you'll not only survive The Happiest day of Your Life, you just might enjoy it."

The Proposal

On August 4, 2011, the night before Pong's birthday, I surprised him with a dinner date at Sofitel.

At exactly 12, I woke him up so he can start his birthday by making a wish and eating a piece of the yummy truffle chocolate cake from Mary Grace.

On his birthday, we attended mass at the Greenbelt Chapel to give thanks for another fruitful year of his life.  Then, we had lunch at Chillis.

I was really happy because I can see the glow on Pong's face that day.  After the sumptuous lunch, he asked me to go with him to Toy Kingdom.  He wanted to buy a Cookie Monster stuff toy so that when we're not together, I won't be sad.  I was really touched and I felt like it was my birthday to receive a pricey gift.  After buying Cookie Monster, we decided to go home already since I still have work.  While I was reading emails, Pong grabbed his guitar and started singing "Marry Me".  He usually does that, so I just continued working.  There were several times that he would sing the same song, so I thought he's just having fun.  The only thing that I couldn't understand was that he was recording every moment he strummed his guitar.  I was quite curious; but I couldn't dwell on it too much since I was hooked up at work.  Then, there's this last attempt where in he was very serious singing the song.  It caught my attention and found myself watching him play.  At the end of the song, he popped the question that changed our lives forever.  "Will you marry me?"  I was really shocked but I knew that Pong is really the man that I've been waiting for a long time.  I didn't think twice; with tears and happiness, I said - "YES!"

Here's the video of his proposal. :)
